First Post of the year!!!

Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year! We hope you have had a great summer and are ready to kick of what is sure to be a great year for the Northridge Choral Department!
Please read through each announcement carefully, as there is a lot of information to convey as we begin the school year:

For ALL CHOIR STUDENTS AND PARENTS:

-This is a reminder that the Green Carpet Gala will be on Tuesday, August 23, at 7pm in the Auditorium. All students and at least one parent are required to attend. If a student will be absent for an acceptable reason, he/she is required to submit a conflict form ASAP. We will be going through our department handbook, as well as going over fees, fundraising, volunteer information, and covering details of our first few events (Garage Sale, Swingfry, etc.)…this is a VERY important meeting for all families in the Northridge Choral Department. In light of this event, there will be NO Choir Parent Meeting this Tuesday.

-The CALENDAR TAB should reflect the rehearsals and performances for all the choirs and groups. It should be up-to-date through the semester and into the spring. Should any changes occur, we will let you know. Competition choirs will also receive a hard-copy of their schedule within the first two weeks of school. Note: it is the responsibility of the student to communicate all conflicts with their director. In order for an absence to be considered for excusal, the conflict form (paper or online here on the website) MUST be submitted a minimum of TWO WEEKS in advance of the known conflict (with the exception of an emergency). Failure to communicate within the allotted time may result in a grade of zero for that rehearsal/performance. Fall athletes, please submit a detailed schedule listing each conflict date with the time you will be at rehearsal and when you will be gone…do NOT assume Mr. Barker will know when you will and will not be there.

-For NL, SL, LL, and VL – There will be an afternoon/evening of fittings for tuxes and gowns coming up before the end of the month. We will let you know the date this week.

-Garage sale volunteer sign up will be posted by Wednesday this week! More post to come. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Bell!

 

For Show Choirs Only (NL/SL/NLO/Crew)
-There will be a mandatory rehearsal for Starlights and Northern Lights on Thursday after school/evening to review for the Middlebury Summer Festival

  • Starlights Rehearsal: 4-5 (marching band students excused)
  • Northern Lights Rehearsal: 6:30-8:30

-Summer Festival Information (Saturday, August 13)

  • Where: Park behind the library
  • Schedule:
    • Setup crew call time: 9:15AM
    • Call time for ALL NL/SL STUDENTS: 10:00AM in performance attire (NL/SL shirts, jeans for guys, white shorts for women)
    • Performance: 11:00AM (over approximately 11:15AM)
    • Cleanup Crew finished by approx. 11:45AM
  • Note: all students will sign up to either set up or tear down. We will settle this during the Thursday rehearsals this week.

-NLO Auditions will occur in the next couple of weeks. Be on the lookout for an announcement and application.

For the 3rd year in a row, our department has experienced growth! We are now at over 225 students in the program, with choirs ranging in sizes of 40-59. We are so looking forward to working with you all this year! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
